DCEU "Batman" star Ben Affleck compared the new take on the famed franchise to "The Dark Knight" trilogy.
In an interview, Affleck discussed what sets the new film apart from its predecessors. He said that it is different in terms of tone and the version of the character he's playing. He explained that while earlier "Batman" films portrayed a younger version of Bruce Wayne, he would play a seasoned version of the character, Cineplex Magazine reported.
"I think the most profound difference is that I'm playing the part at an older age than those guys were when they played it, and it's about a guy who's had a long life of this experience, rather than someone who's just setting out on the journey to become this guy. He's older and wiser, I guess. And he was pretty pissed off in Batman v Superman, but now it's not about finding revenge in Justice League, it's about protecting the Earth. So the feel is different," he explained.
He confirmed the new "Batman" film could potentially follow the lighter tone of the upcoming "Justice League" film. He hinted that while the film may not be as serious as "The Dark Knight" series, the film would still require a rather more nuanced portrayal compared to what can be seen in the "Batman v Superman" film.
He also confirmed that despite the potentially troubled development for the upcoming "Batman" solo film, the project is still ongoing. He explained that they are just taking a little extra time and extra care to get it right on paper.
It is not yet known whether or not he will direct his own solo film under WB, but in case he does, he said that he's going to need to have the Batsuit modified to make it more comfortable. He said that the current Batsuit design is too difficult to put on and take off and might slow down production, Cinema Blend reported.
"I know what's it's like to be in the suit. We'll have to modify the suit to make it a little bit easier to put on and take off. When you are in it, you can be sweating, crazy and exhausted, do your part and walk away. But when you're a director, you can't walk away," he said.
