MMA fighters Tito Ortiz and Chael Sonnen went head-to-head against each other at Bellator 170 on Jan. 21, with an overwhelming victory in favor of Ortiz.
Ortiz dominated the game and used a rear-naked choke on the American Gangster, forcing him into submission just within two minutes of the fight. Ortiz didn't let go of Sonnen even after the latter tapped already until the referee pulled him off. Once the referee announced his victory, Ortiz declared his retirement from the sport after 20 years in the MMA, Daily Star reported.
Some fans are feeling the fight was scripted to Ortiz's advantage. Reactions in social media pointed out that Ortiz held on way too long to the rear-naked choke against Sonnen, and the American Gangster had two chances to stop Ortiz but seemed to be holding back, as per Sports Joe. Some viewers even compiled their own fan-made videos to point out the sequence of the fight as evidence of it being scripted.
The Huntingdon Beach Bad Boy has fought 32 times in his entire MMA career. Ortiz lost to Forest Griffin in 2012 and retired, then came out of retirement to take on Sonnen. In a recent interview, Ortiz expressed his contentment to end his 20-year MMA career on a high note, saying that "I've done everything I wanted to do," as per MMA Fighting.
But Ortiz clarified that he held on too long to his choke against Sonnen because of "ill will", referring to the public beef between the two. In the build-up before Bellator 170, Sonnen taunted Ortiz's ex-girlfriend Jenna Jameson and even implied on his opponent's poor financial condition. The Huntingdon Beach Bad Boy believed that Sonnen violated his personal code for trash talk and his victory against him was divine retribution.
