"The Detour" star Daniella Pineda lands a female lead role in J.A. Bayona's "Jurassic World 2" for Universal Pictures and Amblin Entertainment. She has joined the cast of the next untitled "Jurassic World" sequel.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, all plot and character details are being kept under wraps for "Jurassic World 2." However, it is probably safe to expect loads of dinosaurs. It is also expected that Pineda will play one of the new female lead roles.
Joining Pineda in the cast of "Jurassic World 2" includes returning stars "Guardians of the Galaxy" actor Chris Pratt (Owen) and "Gold" actress Bryce Dallas Howard (Claire). "The Get Down" actor Justice Smith, "Life of Pi" writer Rafe Spall, and "Wayward Pines" actor Toby Jones have also been recently added, Variety reported.
"Jurassic World" helmer Colin Trevorrow co-wrote the screenplay of "Jurassic World 2" with his writing partner Derek Connolly and will executive produce with Steven Spielberg. Belén Atienza, Patrick Crowley, and Frank Marshall will produce. "A Monster Calls" helmer Bayona is also on board to direct.
The 2015 feature "Jurassic World" film blew away box office records, scoring the biggest domestic opening of all time with $208 million. That opening number has been surpassed since by only "Star Wars: The Force Awakens". The film went on to make $1.67 billion worldwide, which includes $652 million in the U.S., putting it in the top five highest-grossing films domestically and globally and becoming the fourth-highest-grossing movie of all time.
Pineda's character in "Jurassic World 2" would mark her first role in a major studio movie. She has previously appeared in shorts and indies such as the upcoming film "Mr. Roosevelt."
Besides TBS' "The Detour," Pineda has also appeared in the HBO series "High Maintenance." She is represented by Innovative Artists, Kirsten Ames Management, and Schreck Rose Dapello & Adams.
