A trio of Shonda Rhimes-produced drama series has been renewed. The network has officially picked up all shows included in its TGIT programming lineup: "Grey's Anatomy," "Scandal" and "How To Get Away With Murder" for the 2017-2018 TV season.
According to Deadline, the renewal comes after the success of the trio's midseason premiere (aired Jan. 26th) that put ABC's ratings on top among adults 18-49. To this end, fans of the aforementioned series may begin celebrating as "Grey's Anatomy" is now officially renewed for Season 14, "Scandal" for Season 7 and "How To Get Away With Murder" for Season 4.
"'Grey's Anatomy,' 'Scandal' and 'How to Get Away with Murder' continue to keep viewers on the edge of their seats and wanting more. I'm thrilled to bring back these shows and the OMG moments that come with them," said Channing Dungey, president, ABC Entertainment.
Core cast members of "Grey's Anatomy" and "Scandal" are all set to return, according to the site. As to whether all shows will be scheduled in the same TGIT lineup next season is yet to be determined.
Rhimes, who remains to be one of Hollywood's sought after producers, has other shows in her plate right now including "The Catch," which returns for a second season this winter and the Romeo and Juliet-inspired drama, "Still Star-Crossed." That project's premiere date is yet to be announced.
The uber-producer is also currently working in an untitled new legal drama with "Scandal" writer Paul William Davies, Entertainment Weekly reported. Set in the Southern District of New York (SDNY) Federal Court, aka "The Mother Court," the legal drama follows brand new lawyers working for both the defense and the prosecution as they handle the most high profile and high stakes cases in the country - all as their personal lives intersect. The project has recently received a pilot order commitment from ABC.
