The cast of "The Crown" Season 2 is expanding. The original Netflix period drama has added "Dexter" alum Michael C. Hall to play former US president, John F. Kennedy aka JFK.
According to Deadline, Hall will be joined by actress Jodi Balfour, who will take on the role of JFK's wife Jackie Kennedy. As for plot details, the site reports that Season 2 of the series "begins with soldiers in Her Majesty's Armed Forces fighting an illegal war in Egypt, and ends with the downfall of her third Prime Minister, Harold Macmillan, after a devastating scandal. The second season bears witness to the end of the age of deference, and ushers in the revolutionary era of the 1960s."
Hall's JFK is described as a natural leader who is most comfortable in front of a crowd. While Jackie's popularity affects his manhood, he seeks revenge by flaunting his many infidelities. His jealousy is seen through anger and manipulation behind closed doors.
Balfour's Jackie is described as a seemingly natural First Lady, but is hiding under a charming exterior who hates public attention.
Hall and Balfour joins previously cast Matthew Goode (The Good Wife) to play Lord Snowdon, as Princess Margaret's photographer husband. TV Line reported the casting news last month.
Hall has been known for playing the titular serial killer in Showtime's "Dexter." His other TV credits include "Justice League: Gods and Monsters," "Chronicles," and "Star vs. the Forces of Evil." Balfour is known for playing roles on "Quarry" and "Almost Anything."
"The Crown" was one of 2016's breakout TV series, alongside NBC's "This Is Us" and HBO's "Westworld." Starring Claire Foy as Queen Elizabeth II, the period drama now has a Golden Globe and a SAG award under its belt. Production for Season 1 was budgeted for £100 million, making it Netflix's most expensive original programming to date.
An official release date for "The Crown" season 2 is yet to be announced.
