Red Barrels released "Outlast 2," which definitely became the scariest game of the year. The game was released Tuesday, April 25 in Xbox One, PlayStation and PC.
"Outlast 2" is the sequel to the 2013 video game from Red Barrels "Outlast." The new installment follows the story of a cameraman and investigative journalist Blake Langermann who crashed his helicopter in the Sonora Desert in the Havasupai region, Arizona. He went to the region with his wife, Lynn, the reporter to investigate the murder of a woman whose blood was filled with mercury.
After the crash, Lynn was missing and his first mission is to find his wife. The village surrounding the area is inhabited by the people who follow a cult that believe the end of days has come. The game is crafted and designed delicately, which according to IGN, the Red Barrels developers created a deceptive world.
Similar to the previous game, the main character Blake is unable to fight. The main character is only able to hide, walk, run, crouch, jump and climb. "Outlast 2" protagonist is equipped with a camcorder with night vision mode that required a battery to see the surrounding at night.
Blake's incapability to defend himself makes the player have to flee or hide when the enemy is coming. In the "Outlast 2," the enemies are the religious cult people, with some of them are deformed. Those deformed members of the cult are the scariest enemies who will chase Blake as they set sight on him, and kill him in an instant once he was caught.
The game itself is pretty much similar to the "Outlast" and "Outlast: Whistleblower" according to VG247. The difference is the game environment. "Outlast 2" takes the horror experience to the desert. While the previous series takes place in the psychiatric hospital, which is invaded by homicidal patients. Watch the trailer of the "Outlast 2" from Red Barrels below:
