Former EXO member Tao has snatched a major acting role in Jackie Chan's upcoming film Railroad Tigers, which is scheduled to be released on December 16.
Huang Zitao (aka Tao) will be playing the role of a flirty-talkative peddler on a steam engine rail called Ding Sheng. The setting of Railroad Tigers dates back in 1941 when a Chinese railroad worker Ma Yuan (Chan) leads a team of freedom fighters against the Japanese to get food for the hungry Chinese population.
The movie, which has a budget production of $50 million, will be directed by Ding Sheng, who is also known for his works on Police Story 2013.
According to Yibada, the film is already in its post-production stage. In a recent interview with the director, Sheng talked about the film's progress and noted that this is his third project alongside the legendary veteran actor, Chan. He also praised Tao's hard work.
"It's also the first time that Huang Zitao has gotten to play such a major role," he said, according to One Hallyu. "He has a lot of scenes, is present throughout the whole film and is a proper character in the movie. The film's very first opening scene is of Huang Zitao."
Sheng revealed that he wrote the story based on Tao's special skills as he wanted to make Tao's character close to his real personality. He also noted that fans can expect a lot of humor in the new movie as each character shows happiness amid adversity.
To excite fans, the official poster for the Railroad Tigers movie has been released on Weibo. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Hong Kong's Golden Network Asia has secured the international rights to the movie.
