The story of Mirasol and co. has reached an end. Lifetime has officially cancelled "Devious Maids" after four seasons of airing.
After airing its Season 4 finale two weeks ago, Lifetime has pulled the plug on "Devious Maids." According to Deadline, the show's ratings have declined in each consecutive season after kicking off strong in its 2013 debut. This could be the major factor that pushed the cable network to effectively get rid of the series on their lineup.
"Devious Maids" hails from "Desperate Housewives" creator Marc Cherry and actress Eva Longoria. It follows the story of a close-knit group of friends who are bonded together by their jobs, life struggles and the melodramatic universe that engulfs their employers. The series stars Ana Ortiz, Dania Ramirez, Roselyn Sanchez and Judy Reyes.
Season 4 of "Devious Maids" capped-off with a cliffhanger which found Mirasol being kidnapped. In an interview with TV Line last month, showrunner Sabrina Wind said that the loose ended finale was their way of launching a new mystery for the now cancelled fifth season.
"We have many thoughts of what it all means, but we have to wait to talk to Lifetime about them," the showrunner told the publication.
"It will be a completely new story."
When news of its cancellation broke, fans immediately poured their disbelief in social media. As expected, they are pissed off to learn that the said cliffhanger will no longer be given a resolution.
While this is the case, there could still be hope for "Devious Maids." Lifetime may have opted not to renew it for Season 5, but there are other networks and digital platforms out there who might be willing to resurrect the series. For now, fans should just keep an eye out for new developments.
