Legendary comic-book writer Stan Lee has shared his least favorite Marvel character film adaptation and expressed support for actress Zendaya as Mary Jane Watson. As co-creator of some of the most popular comic book superheroes under Marvel, he shared that he was not particularly fond of the portrayal of Doctor Doom in the first "Fantastic Four" film.
"I was a little disappointed in the very first Fantastic Four, because I didn't care for how Doctor Doom was portrayed," he told Comic Book Resources.
Other than that little criticism, he went to say that he thought the actors on that film were terrific for capturing the spirit and intent of the characters that they portrayed. He also added that none of the movies disappointed him in particular and that most of them came out better than what everybody expected.
Lee also spoke about Zendaya's casting as Mary Jane Watson in "Spider-Man: Homecoming." Inspite the controversy, the comic book icon has nothing but kind words for the young actress. He also said that diverting from the traditional white girl portrayal of Mary Jane was a good idea and that he wished he was the one who thought of it.
"I can't wait to see that gal, I can't wait to see that movie, and I think the public will love it," he said.
Lee has made a cameo appearance in almost every Marvel comic book film adaptation since "X-Men" in 2000. At 93, he is slowing down on his public appearances. The upcoming New York Comic-Con from October 6 to 9 will be his last, Screen Rant reported.
Lee in collaboration with several artists including Jack Kirby and Steve "Ditko created "Spider-Man," "Iron Man," "The Hulk," "Thor," "X-Men," "Daredevil," "Fantastic Four," and other Marvel comic book properties.
