Many market analysts noticed over several years that the sales and demand for any Sony PlayStation console tend to go up when a new "Final Fantasy" game is released. Although the PlayStation 4 console has yet to make its mark in its home country of Japan, the looming release of "Final Fantasy XV" bids new light for increased demands. In order to ride along with this hype, Sony recently announced that is it releasing a special edition PlayStation 4 Slim edition with a "Final Fantasy XV" theme.
Dubbed as the Luna Edition, it is the first limited edition variant of the PlayStation 4. The new version is expected to hit the market on Nov. 29, the same the "Final Fantasy XV" will be released. According to The Verge, the package will cost $393, and it comes bundled with a copy of the game and a rental of the "Final Fantasy XV" spinoff movie "Kingsglaive."
So far, the PlayStation 4 Slim Luna Edition is only slated for an exclusive release in Japan. Sony has yet to confirm whether this version of the PS4 will go on sales in other international market outside of its home country.
Based on promotional posters released by Sony, the Luna Edition only comes in one color variant: matte black. Printed on the top panel is a photo of the moon with the "Final Fantasy XV" in the middle inscribed in gold colors. The package comes with one PS4 controller with "XV" printed on the right grip.
According to GameSpot, the design of the PlayStation 4 Luna Edition is inspired by "Final Fantasy XV" main character Noctis looking at the moon. The design of the console is also "targeted at an older audience."
Aside from the new PlayStation 4 limited edition, Sony also announced two new color variants of its handheld console, the PS Vita. Sony said that it will release the Metallic Red and Silver variants of the PS Vita on Dec. 1. Just like the PlayStation 4 Luna Edition, the new PS Vita variants will be exclusively released in Japan.
