"Need for Speed" star Imogen Poots joins "Guardians of the Galaxy" actress Zoe Saldana in the drama "I Kill Giants" directed by Anders Walters. The production starts shooting on Sept. 27 in Ireland and Belgium.
There has been no word yet on who Poots will be playing in "I Kill Giants." According to Variety, last year, Saldana came on board to play as a school psychologist. She forms a close bond with protagonist Barbara (Madison Wolfe). Barbara is a misfit girl battling both real and imaginary monsters in her life. Saldana's character will help Barbara overcome the trials she has faced with both internally and externally despite the girl's escapist behavior.
"I Kill Giants" is based on Joe Kelly's 2008 graphic novel, Comicbook reported. Kelly himself wrote the script for the film. He announced the news last year that the book will be leaping to the big screen. He said that Treehouse Pictures had agreed to finance the project.
Chris Columbus is the producer of "I Kill Giants" through his 1492 Pictures/Ocean Blue Entertainment. Other producers are Adrian Politowski, Kim Magnusson, Kyle Franke, Umedia, Man of Action Entertainment, and XYZ Films. XYZ Films handles the worldwide sales and is meeting with distributors at the 2016 Toronto International Film Festival. The film is backed by Ingenious and financed by Umedia.
Poots is repped by CAA, Independent, and Morris Yorn. She was recently seen playing the female lead in Cameron Crowe's "Roadies" on Showtime. She also starred in "Frank and Lola," opposite Michael Shannon.
For those who are not aware, "I Kill Giants" is illustrated by J.M. Ken Niimura. It was pitched to Image Comics for publication. It won a Gaiman Award in 2013 and the International Manga Award in 2012. It was even listed in the "Top Ten Great Graphic Novels for Teens" list by the Young Adult Library Services Association in 2010. It was also awarded the title of "Best Indy Book of 2008" by IGN and was an Eisner Award finalist.
