Almost five months after "Limitless" Season 1 aired its final episode, it is still uncertain whether the CBS series will be given another shot to take on a new installment. Previously, CBS announced the cancellation of the TV series after its ratings went down despite having a rabid fan base.

In May, CBS President Glenn Geller revealed they are in talks with other networks to make "Limitless" Season 2 possible. The statement was made after CBS announced they will not be including "Limitless" Season 2 in their 2016-17 line up, Variety reported.

On the other hand, Executive Producer Craig Sweeny supported the announcement and told his Twitter fans that "Limitless" series will not push through on any platform. The showrunner also extended his gratitude towards those who supported the 22-episode "Limitless" Season 1.

Despite the unfortunate news, fans remained hopeful that the CBS series will be renewed for another season to give justice to the story of Brian Finch and the rest of the cast. As a result, an online petition was created for the renewal of "Limitless" for a new installment.

Over 26,000 fans have already signed the petition for a "Limitless" Season 2, with some of them expressing their dismay over CBS for cancelling "a great" show. Meanwhile, amid cancellation plans, Sweeny has reportedly prepared the plot for the new installment in case the CBS series will be picked up by another network.

"So, we're going to make some changes to the show, but it will remain essentially -- we do find a way for it to be Brian taking NZT working with Rebecca and Boyle and a couple new members on the team, solving crimes and having fun a week-to-week basis," Sweeny told IGN.

He continued, "So despite the current state of things at the end of "Finale: Part One!" at the end of the season, we are in a different place, but not as radically different as it feels like what we're in right now."

However, things are still hazy for "Limitless" Season 2 as the showrunner recently said the series is "100% gone."
