Despite facing trade sanctions from the United States government, ZTE's Axon brand continues to attract a growing fan base in the country. In July, ZTE launched the Axon 7 in the United States and was highly praised by both consumers and critics. To maintain its reputation in the market, ZTE recently announced that it is rolling out a new set of upgrades for the Axon 7 flagship smartphone.
So far, the upgrade most users demand is the Android 7.0 Nougat. Unfortunately, the latest ZTE Axon 7 update does not contain it. Instead, ZTE promised that the latest update will improve signal strength, improved battery performance, app optimizations, and a new notification called "fast battery drain," according to Slash Gear.
ZTE said that the update will make the fingerprint sensor work faster than before. Although it is still unclear what changes ZTE made on the battery, but the company promised significant improvements in terms of battery life.
The latest ZTE Axon 7 update also brings the group text messaging feature. ZTE said that improvements to the Axon 7's cameras were also included. As with all updates, the latest from ZTE will also include patches for reported bugs and other security loopholes. According to the official ZTE website, the latest update will also fix the infamous Qualcomm Quadrooter flaws. ZTE confirmed that its latest update includes all of Google's security patches which was released on Sept. 1.
Regarding users' request for the Android Nougat update, ZTE had previously hinted that it is working on to bring it to the Axon 7 as well. Reports also claim that ZTE is working with the CyanogenMod modding community, which means that ZTE's handsets might finally support custom Android ROMs in the near future. Should this happen, the possibility of custom ROMs for the ZTE Axon 7 will further spread the phone's appeal into the modding community.
