"The Walking Dead" alum Austin Abrams joins "Zoolander" star Ben Stiller in the independent comedy film "Brad's Status." "School of Rock" writer-director Mike White is being helmed on it.
Abrams will play the role of Brad's only son in "Brad's Status," Variety reported. He is the repository of his father's hopes and dreams. His academic and artistic talents make him a shoo-in at the best universities in the country, including Harvard University.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, "Brad's Status" centers about the life of Brad (Stiller). Brad has a good career and happy family. Despite that, he is obsessed with the better fortunes of his old friends from school.
In the plot of "Brad's Status," while escorting his son on an East Coast tour of colleges, Brad contemplates on what might have been on the roads not traveled in his own life. Then, he is forced to confront his friends and his feelings of failure with hilarious and poignant results.
Brad Pitt's Plan B Entertainment will produce "Brad's Status" in association with Sidney Kimmel Entertainment, Dede Gardner, David Bernard, and White. White wrote the script. He also wrote "Chuck and Larry," "Nacho Libre," and "The Good Girl."
Director White also wrote the musical-comedy "School of Rock." He starred with Laura Dern in HBO's "Enlightened," which he co-created, wrote and directed. He made his directorial debut with the 2007 comedy "Year of the Dog," starred Molly Shannon and John C. Reilly.
Abrams is repped by APA, Industry Entertainment, and Myman Greenspan Fineman Fox Rosenberg & Light, LLP. He starred in "Paper Towns," opposite Nat Wolff and Cara Delevingne, as well as a recurring role on "The Walking Dead." He began his career in "Gangster Squad" with Ryan Gosling and Sean Penn.
Stiller last starred in "Zoolander 2" and just finished producing on Noah Baumbach's "The Meyerowitz Stories," starring Dustin Hoffman and Adam Sandler. He came on board "Brad's Status" back in January. The producers are planning to start filming this month in Montreal and Massachusetts.
