The boss of crime series "Ray Donovan" David Hollander revealed that he had been thinking about additional characters and an endgame for the series.
The show has since been picked up for a Season 5 after planting seeds of a story arc at the conclusion of Season 4. While the season ended its fourth season in a peaceful fashion given the amount of violence portrayed since its conception.
Technically, the show has a clean slate moving forward so there will be room for more characters. Hollander said that in Season 5, fans can expect a different set of characters who are hounded by what happened in the past four seasons. He also said that he is planning to make a grand Hollywood story in the upcoming season, TV Line reported.
In an interview, Hollander revealed that he had been thing about the endgame for "Ray Donovan" while crafting the fifth season. He went to say that does not plan on ending the show with Ray's death, The Hollywood Reporter reported.
"Oh lord, no. No, no. That would be the easy way out of the storytelling."
Asked whether or not he feels Season 5 will be last installment of the show, Hollander explained that he is conflicted.
"I'm beginning to seriously think of an endgame, I think it's essential. This is a series and a story that in its inception was never designed with a grand design of where Ray Donovan was going. That was the design," he said.
He went to say that he wants to take the series one episode at a time and deliver the story in the best way possible to make it satisfying whether or not it is renewed or not.
