"Game of Thrones" may be nearing its end but HBO is looking forward to exploring other storylines based on the series. HBO programming president Casey Bloys said that there is still a lot of potential storylines but they have to find the right people to do it.
"There are so many properties and areas to go to. For us, it's about finding the right take with the right writer," and added, "In a perfect world, Game of Thrones would keep going, and we wouldn't have to deal with any of this!" The Hollywood Reporter reported.
Bloys hinted that the network is eyeing current "GoT" writers David Benioff and D.B. Weiss who said earlier that they will not continue writing about the "Game of Thrones" universe once the series is done. However, Bloys hope that once the stress has passed, the duo will reconsider.
"... should we find a property that makes sense as a spinoff or a prequel - whatever you want to say - I would not expect them to do it, because they're going to need to decompress for a good amount of time, but it would certainly be nice to have their involvement in some way. At what level? I have no idea."
"A Song of Ice and Fire" writer George R.R. Martin opined that there is still a wealth of material available in Westeros outside the realm of "Game of Thrones", Screen Rant reported. However, it will still be up to HBO whether they will pick up another series which is based on the same universe.
"Game of Thrones" is currently filming Season 7. The series is set to come back sometime in 2017.
