SM Entertainment finally released a formal statement to address recurring issues about malicious rumors and invasion of privacy pressed against their artists.
On Oct. 7, the agency said in a dispatch that these issues not only affect their artists, but also their families and colleagues. "We have decided that these incidents can no longer be tolerated, and to protect our label artists, we will take strong action against those who violate privacy and/or engage in illegal action," SM Entertainment announced as per Allkpop.
SM Entertainment, which is a home for EXO, Girls' Generation, Super Junior, SHINee, Red Velvet and other known artists, said that these malicious rumors are causing physical and psychological damage against their artists.
At the end of the statement, the agency thanked their followers for supporting their continued support for the label's artists. Meanwhile, many netizens expressed their consent on the statement of SM Entertainment.
Some fans are even relieved after the label has finally step up to protect their artists, noting that this move will stop sasaengs from invading their idol's privacy. Just recently, EXO's Lay broke his silence about experience with sasaengs, Koreaboo noted.
A representative of Lay revealed a sasaeng allegedly tried to break inside Lay's hotel room in August. Prior to that, sasaengs also tried to sneak inside the production set of Lay's drama.
Lay's representative added the EXO member's safety and privacy is their top priority, reminding his fans to respect their idol and his right for privacy.
"We would like to remind fans to not infringe on any laws or his safety. If such incidents take place again we will take pictures as evidence and - within lawful boundaries - punish those involved as harshly as we can," Lay's representative warned.
