"Sinbad" movies have been around in Hollywood for quite some time already with one of the recent entries being Dreamworks' "Sinbad: Legend of the Seven Seas" back in 2003. Now, rumors are circulating that another movie will be planned in the making with "Game of Thrones" director Miguel Sapochnik helming the film.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the company taking over the fantasy franchise will be Studio 8 with scriptwriter Kyle Killen ("Lone Star," "Mind Games") and "Game of Thrones" director Miguel Sapochnik ("True Detective," "Fringe," "House") helming the project.
Sapochnik was the one who directed the epic "Game of Thrones" episodes "Battle of the Bastards," as well as "The Winds of Winter." He also helmed "Hardhome" in the previous year, the episode where Jon Snow battled the White Walkers.
Next in his line of production is the Netflix's highly anticipated Marvel series "Iron Fist." Kyle Killen, on the other hand, will be working in the script of live-action adaptation of popular manga and anime series "Death Note" for Netflix.
Now going back to the "Sinbad" movie, Studio 8 had this to say: "Sinbad was a rare comprehensive and engaging pitch which lends itself to an international audience and big visual set pieces but also distinct and unique actor roles for a diverse cast of characters. This project is part of Studio 8's ongoing commitment to working closely with filmmakers on the re-imagination of genres."
Blastr reports about the story of Sinbad being a Middle Eastern fictional hero who originated from Baghdad. He became well known in the literary piece "The Arabian Nights," as he let readers follow him in his sea-faring adventures travelling to distant mysterious and magical lands where he and his crew encountered monsters and fantastic creatures and all things magical.
The legend of Sinbad has already been portrayed in the big screen many times already, especially the old films which included the more famous "The 7th Voyage of Sinbad." These movies were known to use the fantastic stop-motion work of artist Ray Harryhausen. Other Sinbad-related entertainment included the TV series in 1990 and 2012, and the Dreamworks animation "Sinbad: Legend of the Seven Seas" back in 2003.
