Mi Mix, designed by French designer Philippe Starck, will be put on sale on November 4.

Earlier this week, Xiaomi launched the Mi Mix - a device now being dubbed as the future of phones with an overall design that is all-screen with lesser bezels.

According to The Verge, the 6.4-inch smartphone was conceptualized by legendary French designer Philippe Starck and was initially promoted as a concept phone. Basically, what makes the Mi Mix stands out is its almost edgeless exterior on top of a 91.3 percent screen. The Chinese company plans to release the device in retail stores beginning on Nov. 4.

Other highlighted features of the device include the latest Snapdragon 821 chip which also powers Google's new line of smartphones, the Pixels. It is packed with 4GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage, but there's also word that the company will release a faster version with 6GB and 256GB of storage.

The Mi Mix's almost bezelless design feature allowed for the reimagination of its front camera. Instead of usually locating them on the upper portion, this device's selfie cam can be found in its lower right corner. It is a bit strange, but original. The rear camera, on the other hand, has 16 megapixels with phase-detect autofocus.

All told, Xiaomi's latest smartphone offering may or may not be the device of the future. But critics are quick to notice that it has the edge to be pitted against Apple's upcoming iPhone 8. After all, there are already rumors floating online that the Cupertino-based company is eyeing to make its iconic home button obsolete by the time they launch the successor of the iPhone 7.
