"American Horror Story" has plotted a crossover season between Season 1's Murder House and Season 3's Coven, creator and showrunner Ryan Murphy has revealed.

Murphy announced the new development for the hit FX series during EW's PopFest panel on Sunday, where he also confirmed that the said crossover will neither be a prequel or a sequel. Instead, it will be something entirely out of the box. The news comes after "American Horror Story" revealed the game-changing twist on its current sixth season, Roanoke.

"We do know what we're going to do," Murphy revealed to the crowd.

"We are going to do a season that's a crossover between Murder House and Coven together, which is very bizarre."

Murphy clarified that the crossover will not be part of the upcoming seventh season due to scheduling conflicts. While this means longer waiting time, it's not actually a bad thing. The decision to bump the crossover could allow for Season 1's major players such as Connie Britton or Dylan McDermott to make appearances.

"I've [already] started going to actors from both of the seasons, quietly, saying, 'I think in this window, if you could fit us in,'" added Murphy.

"So yeah, it's fun. It's weird."

"American Horror Story" is an anthology series which centers on bizarre storylines and a new group of unconventional characters each year. Its current sixth season, Roanoke, was recently revealed to be a 3-part act and that only one will survive the final episode. Albeit the mixed reviews, the series continues to record top ratings for the cable network.

Earlier this month, FX has given the series an early Season 7 pickup following a strong debut of the highly-promoted and mysterious Season 6.
