A new space feature film is upon us. Sony Pictures on Sunday has unveiled the first two official trailer of "Life," a sci-fi thriller starring Ryan Reynolds (Deadpool) and Jake Gyllenhaal (Southpaw).
Like most movies that are set on space, "Life" also sticks to a storyline that's embedded with a sense of urgency and a primary objective to fight for human survival. As seen in the 2-minute international trailer, viewers are introduced to the International Space Station's six-member crew as they discover that there's actual evidence of extra-terrestrial life on Mars. However, the microorganism proves to be more dangerous and intelligent than they expected.
"We're looking at the first proof of life beyond Earth," Ariyon Bakare's character shared with his crew on the clip.
"You're finally a daddy," Reynolds' character jokes.
"It's going to be a big custody battle over this one."
Helmed by "Safe House" and "Child 44" director, Daniel Espinosa, Sony's latest scifi offering looks right off the bat a hit. The 1962 voiceover of President John F. Kennedy's 'moon speech' gave the trailer an even more chilling effect. What's more, the tandem of Reynolds and Gyllenhaal is clearly something that will take the moviegoers glued to their seats.
Penned by Paul Wernick and Rhet Reese, "Life" also stars Rebecca Ferguson (Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation), Hiroyuki Sanada, and Olga Dihovichnaya.
"Life" was originally set for a March 24 release date, but the film has been bumped for a 2017 Memorial Day weekend release on May 26. Per Deadline, the movie will now go up against Disney's "Pirates of the Carribean: Dead Men Tell No Tales" and an untitled astronaut comedy from Universal which stars Zach Galifianakis, Bill Hader and Seth Rogen.
