NBA Regular Season 2016-17: Ricky Rubio is sidelined for indefinite time after elbow injury in the game against Sacramento Kings

Minnesota Timberwoles point guard Ricky Rubio suffered an injury in his right elbow at the fourth quarter in the game against the Kings. He was sidelined and examined by doctors, who diagnosed a sprained elbow. Up to now, doctors are still undefinitive about his condition.

Rubio was out at the 6:38 minutes left in the fourth quarter against Sacramento Kings on Saturday, Oct. 29. Prior to that, he had posted 5 points and 5 assists of his team’s 106-103 loss at Golden One Center, Sacramento.

After an MRI, doctor found a sprain in his elbow and not a break according to report by sports Illusrated. The Timberwolves did not provide further detail about his return but stated to update his status appropriately. The Wolves head coach Tom Thibodeau said that Rubio’s intensity in the game has helped the team in the league.

“His hustle, playing great defense, running the team, “coach Thiboeau said. “He’s an unselfish player who will hit the open man, and I think he’s starting to understand the NBA a little bit better. It takes a little time.”

After Rubio’s injury, rookie Kris Dunn who was the fifth pick in the NBA draft will have the opportunity to showcase his skill. Dunn has proved his capability in the 116-80 victory against Memphis Grizzlies on Nov. 1 in Target Center, Minneapolis, MN., posting 10 points, 6 assists and 5 steals.

Rubio joined Minnesota Timberwolves in 2009 as a 5th overall pick in the NBA Draft, but he did not play for the Wolves until 2011. Prior to his debut in NBA, Rubio is a top point guard in the Euro League basketball. He won the Eurocup championship with Spanish club DKV Joventut in 2008, and voted the best point guard inthe Spanich professional basketball league the ACB League in 2008 and 2010.

Two years after draf, Rubio finally made a debut in the NBA in 2011-12 season, finishing with average 10.6 points with 8.2 assists per game for Minnesota Timberwolves.
