Preview
Atlanta suffered its first defeat of the season to the up-and-coming Los Angeles Lakers squad, 123-116, at the Philips Arena on Wednesday, as per SB Nation.
Dwight Howard had a monster game of 31 points and 11 rebounds in a losing effort as head coach Mike Budenholzer's squad went lax on defense in the final minutes.
Starters Dennis Schroeder, Kent Bazemore, and Paul Millsap all scored in double figures with 11, 11, and 10, but starting shooting guard Kyle Korver had a bad shooting night with only three points as he went 1-for-6 from downtown.
Tim Hardaway Jr. fired 26 points in only 21 minutes off the bench as he went 8-for-10 from the field including a 5-for-7 stint from beyond the arc.
The Hawks will try to move past the upsetting loss and continue their hot start to the season against the Wizards, who cannot seem to find a win at the moment.
Washington succumbed to their third straight loss on Wednesday as they were thrashed by the Toronto Raptors, 113-103, in their home opener at the Verizon Center, ESPN reported.
Team leader John Wall led head coach Scott Brooks' team with 33 points, five rebounds, 11 assists, and three steals. Otto Porter Jr. shot 11-for-13 from the field to score 23 points as he also hauled down 13 boards in an impressive performance.
Wall's backcourt partner, Bradley Beal, had a bad game with 15 points, shooting 5-for-13 from the field. Starting center Marcin Gortat contributed a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds.
The problem for the Wizards were their turnovers as they committed 21 during the game which translated into 30 points for the Raptors.
"That's hard to overcome," said Brooks. "There's a few things that we have to correct."
Prediction
Washington has nothing to offer beyond Wall and Beal, although Porter is slowly emerging at the moment. The Hawks still have momentum from starting the season on a three-game winning run and they are favored to win their second straight road game.
