It's not the backup dancer or the bad behavior that broke up the casino mogul and the superstar. Reports confirmed that Scientology once again played a role in the drama that ensued inside a high-profile relationship such as Mariah Carey and James Packer's.
Like Tom Cruise's relationships with his two ex wives, Scientology played a part in the Carey-Packer split, Daily Mail UK reported. There have been rumors that circulated that Packer disapproved of the singer's excessive spending and this has confused many since Packer is a billionaire and has been lavishing Mariah Carey with expensive gifts (including the $10 million engagement ring).
However, sources close to the superstar have denied these claims saying it's not her spending that irked him, he has been brainwashed by Scientology's former spokesman Tommy Davis, who happens to be a close friend of Packer and his business adviser.
Sources said in September, Packer suddenly became a stranger and a month after their big fight in their Greece trip, he sent Mariah out from their rented house in Calabasas, California and the singer was forced to live in the Beverly Hills Hotel for two weeks, ET Online reported.
Mariah has been disillusioned with Packer's relationship with Davis from the very beginning and suspects he is controlling his fiancé. Packer was introduced to Scientology by Tom Cruise and has practiced until 2006.
Mariah was traumatized by the highly publicized split. They were photographed several times looking happy and so in love with each other. She demands that Packer pay her an undisclosed amount as inconvenience fee that their break up has caused in her life.
It included the expenses incurred when she uprooted her children from New York to live with the billionaire in Los Angeles. It also includes the cost of cancelling her tour dates in South America. It was also reported that Mariah wants to keep the engagement ring the billionaire gifted her when he proposed.
The two are still in settlement negotiations. Packer reportedly intended to marry the pop goddess on March 1st next year hastening his army of lawyers to speed up the prenuptial agreement so that he can finally marry her.
