One of the highly anticipated drama series this year has just started airing, but already won the hearts of the viewers. "Legend Of The Blue Sea" premiered on Nov. 16, recording 16.4 percent viewership over "Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo" and "Oh My Geum Bi."
Soompi reported the three drama series premiered on the same day for the Wednesday-Thursday primetime slot. However, Lee Min Ho's "Legend Of The Blue Sea" recorded a big lead over the two.
Reports stated MBC's "Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo" garnered 3.3 percent viewership, while KBS' "Oh My Geum Bi" was at 5.9 percent, taking the second spot.
Meanwhile, the standings of the three dramas remained constant after the second episodes were released. However, figures changed for "Legend Of The Blue Sea," which recorded a 15.1 percent viewership, and "Oh My Geum Bi" with 6.5 percent.
"Legend Of The Blue Sea" stars popular artists Lee Min Ho and Jun Ji Hyun. The fantasy drama series is directed by Jin Hyuk, who said the drama is a creation of an imaginative mind.
"We have our own ancient mermaid stories. The drama has been created from the imagination of one of those surviving mermaids just walked into the modern day Seoul on day," Korea Times.
The director went on, "Screenwriter Park Ji Eun and I have teamed up to make a warm, sad and beautiful love story, perfect to tell in the winter."
Previously, Park has worked with Jun for "My Love From The Star." The actress even revealed her trust to the writer and producer made her accept the project and even delighted to learn that she is playing as a mermaid.
"Mermaids are very mysterious and stimulate the imagination. I thought that I could have great room to portray her who would challenge everything around her for the first time," Jun said.
Catch Lee Min Ho and Jun Ji Hyun on "Legend Of The Blue Sea" every Wednesday and Thursday at 22:00 KST on SBS.
