Spider-Man PS4 developer Insomniac Games announced that they will be skipping The Game Awards and PlayStation Experience (PSX), not showcasing any new content at the events. This is despite a tweet last October stating plans to reveal new details and gameplay for PSX. According to the report, the developers are still working on various aspects of the game and new details will be released in 2017. The game was revealed last E3 2016 and it features a more experienced Peter Parker, not one based on the upcoming movie "Spider-Man: Homecoming."
While very few details exist about the game, the developers have said that they are looking towards an earlier release and will not be spending two more years of development for the game. It is still called "Spider-Man PS4" because the official name has not yet been revealed. Insomniac Games has been responsible for the successful "Ratchet & Clank" series and a recently released gameplay trailer shows various acrobatic moves that Spider-Man can perform. The game will also be available with the upgraded PlayStation 4 Pro and will feature crisper graphics as well as better performance taking advantage of high end television sets.
Insomniac Games have also announced that they are working closely with Marvel for the story of the game and it will be an original story, no longer delving in Spider-Man's origin. No specific details have been given on any villains that will be appearing in the game, though some goons in masks have appeared in the gameplay trailer. The new white symbol Spider-Man suit has also been a topic for many fans, though the developers have not yet released any details about it, only confirmed that there is a reason for the white symbol.
Some websites are already comparing "Spider-Man PS4" to the highly successful "Batman Arkham" franchise mainly because the game will treat Spider-Man as an established hero rather than an origin story. Details on the release date and the features of the game will be revealed in 2017.
