K-Pop groups continue to dominate Billboard's World Albums Chart and World Album Artists Chart. This time the feat is courtesy of idol groups GOT7 and BTS.
BTS peaked on the World Album Charts with two entries: their second studio album "Wings" is at No. 6 while their EP "The Most Beautiful Moment in Live, PT. 2" is at No. 9. GOT7 on the other hand joins the list at No. 5 with their EP "Fly," Soompi reported.
As for their World Albums Artists Charts ranking, BTS is at No. 5 while GOT7 is at No. 6
GOT7 and BTS have been consistent performers on the Billboard charts ever since their debuts. In April this year GOT7 flew onto the Billboard Artists 100 chart at No. 45, becoming the second K-Pop act to enter the chart. The first was "Gangnam Style" singer PSY, who held a much lower ranking at No. 88.
GOT7's album "Flight Log: Turbulance" debuted on the Billboard World Album Charts at No. 1 in October 2016. This put the group at a time with B.A.P for having the most No.1 albums on the World Albums Chart. The list of K-Pop artists that have managed to enter more than one top-charting album in the said chart includes EXO, Girls' Generation, SHINee, f(x), G-Dragon and Girls' Generation TTS, SBS reported.
On the other hand, BTS is also a top performer on the charts. The group's second full-length album, "Wings," debuted at No. 26 on the Billboard 200 chart, having sold 16,000 copies of their album. 11,000 of which were listed as traditional album sales.
These figures make "Wings" the highest-performing, best-selling K-Pop album in the United States. The title was previously held by 2NE1's album "Crush." "Wings" is a critically-acclaimed album for BTS, for which they received praise for tackling social issues such as mental health and female empowerment.
