"SNL Korea" has announced they will be taking an early break after the eighth installment, adding that they are hoping to return in a better shape after being involved in a chain of controversies.
Allkpop cited "SNL Korea" will air the final episode of Season 8 on Dec. 24. Although they have refused to admit that the early break was a result of the recent controversies, many are speculating that the decision was made to reflect on the issues the show is currently facing.
"Singer Hwang Chi Yeol will be "SNL Korea 8's" last host. The last day is December 24th. We will take the viewers' sharp criticism humbly, use the support as our fertilizer and come back with a new season," the show announced.
Initially, "SNL Korea" drew flak for alleged sexual assault after one of the show's hosts reportedly touched the private parts of B1A4. The incident happened before the boy group took the stage of the show, Korea Times reported.
The act was even caught on camera, showing that the B1A4 members were shocked after the comedian groped them. Some of the members were even staggered for a few seconds before they were able to recover from the comedian's surprising act.
Comedian Lee Se Young and the cast of "SNL Korea" apologized after the incident. However, another controversy arose on the same day the cast members apologized on the show.
"SNL Korea" and comedian Jung Leeran were under fire after the latter reportedly criticized an actress with breast cancer. According to reports, the comedian played as veteran actress Uhm Aingran in a segment of the show.
However, viewers were shocked when Jung candidly said she has "nothing to grab on [her] chest." It can be remembered that Uhm was diagnosed with breast cancer early this year. The veteran actress even had to undergo operation to remove her breast to prevent the cancer cells from spreading.
Following the controversy, "SNL Korea" apologized on behalf of the comedian whom they said is unaware of Uhm's condition.
