Marvel has been around for more than 40 years or so and it has been subject to numerous changes (or retcons, as one would put it). One such notable retcon is the "All-New Wolverine" that now stars Laura Kinney, or X-23 as most would know her, as she takes on the mantle of Wolverine now. In an upcoming story arc called "Immune," she dons a new costume and confronts an alien contamination that's now plaguing the population.
According to an interview with "All-New Wolverine" writer Tom Taylor, after Logan's (the original Wolverine) death in 2014's "Death of Wolverine" arc, Laura Kinney, or X-23, the clone of Logan, saw him as a father figure and began to don his armor after his passing. While we know the yellow and blue Wolverine suit version of X-23, this new "Immune" story arc takes in a different one: a dark colored suit.
"A lot of what we've been doing in this series comes down to moving Laura to the next logical step. She's growing on the page," said Tom Taylor. "This suit is part of that growth. (...) Just because she has a healing factor, doesn't mean she enjoys pain, or bullets ripping through her internal organs. She has had her issues with pain before, and she's moving through this. This suit is designed to be bulletproof and generally more protective."
The new suit is certainly a nod to the X-Force motif, being a fan favorite. Wearing this suit also is a take on her stealth mission. "It's a bit easier to hunt prey when you're not wearing bright yellow," according to Taylor. He also added that if X-23 survives this particular mission, she might decide to wear this costume for future missions.
Speaking of this particular mission, the "Immune" story arc tells of an an alien child that crashes into a major city in an escape pod. As the child emerges, he succumbed to an unknown virus and speaks the name of "Laura Kinney." In a rapid rate, everyone in the surrounding premises get infected which forced S.H.I.E.L.D to contain the entire city as a quarantined zone.
With the new Wolverine bearing the self-regenerative traits of her "father," Laura is sent into the zone to resolve the situation. However, the clock is ticking and will she be able to escape this alive and contain the problem and save lives?
The artist working on this will be Leonard Kirk, who's known for his artistic prowess in other comics like "X-Factor," "JSA," and "Supergirl."
Other guest appearance in the comics might include Peter Parker, Beast, Iron Man, Janet Van Dyne (the Wasp), or Black Panther, as well as X-23's clone sister Gabby and their pet wolverine Jonathan.
In the topic of appearance, Laura will be making her first on-screen film appearance in "Logan," who will be played by child actress Dafne Keen. The film will premiere on Mar. 3, 2017.
