"Toy Story 4" is all about going after the one you love. Film director John Lasseter confirmed that the sequel focuses on Woody and Bo Peep's love story.
"Toy Story 4" maintains its theme of adventure and fun, with its plot rooted in Woody's reunion with Bo Peep. Woody and Bo Peep's romance is the center of the story. This is what Lasseter in an interview, when asked what fans can expect from the sequel.
"It's a love story with Woody and-and this is news-Bo Peep," Lasseter told CNBC.
The filmmaker did not reveal any further plot details about Woody (Tom Hanks) and Bo Peep's romance in "Toy Story 4." However, he already confirmed in previous interviews where the story picks off. He told the Los Angeles Times that the sequel happens after the events in "Toy Story 3," when Andy gave away his toys before going to college. He handed them to a little girl named Bonnie at the end of the third film.
Naturally, these would mean that "Toy Story 4" follows the life of Woody, Buzz Lightyear and the rest of the gang with their new owner. However, the story might deviate a little since it focuses on the gang's search for Bo Peep (Annie Potts). Consequences that led to their search for Woody's girlfriend remain unknown. Perhaps the cowboy casually mentions her in a conversation.
The last time Bo Peep actually made an appearance in the movie franchise was in "Toy Story 2." Her cameo in "Toy Story 3" does not count, since she only appeared in Andy's home videos. Likewise, Woody also never spoke about her again after he told the gang that she has been sold along with Andy's other toys. Perhaps, the team decides to find Bo Peep's new owner in "Toy Story 4."
