The "Incredibles 2" may be the last installment for the animated franchise, since Disney's animated partner, Pixar, has come to a decision to focus on making original movies. Aside from "The Incredibles 2" slated to be released on 2019, the studio has two more animated sequels in the pipe-line such as "Toy Story 4" and "Cars 3."
Pixar already has two original films scheduled to be released on March and June 2020. Two more original films are also in its early development, and the studio has not planned a release date yet. Pixar President, Jim Morris, explained during an interview with Entertainment Weekly why they have decided to stop making sequels for some of their animated films.
Morris explained that Pixar follows a filmmaking business model. Unlike other studios, Pixar does not make a sequel following a successful film without the discretion of the director who should have a new idea that he would like to see move forward. He continued on to explain that creating a sequel was harder since you have to move one leg from an already defined set, and at the same time have to live up to a lot of expectations especially if the first film came out as a success.
This is similar to what happened with "Finding Dory." Although the film has hit the global box office, it is still $200 less than the profits of its predecessor, "Finding Nemo." Christian Daily also reported that "Cars 2" did not live up to the expectations of its fans after receiving poor critics compared to the first film. Despite that "The Incredibles 2" will be the end of the franchise, Morris remains hopeful that some classic movies will have a chance for their own sequel because as he said, nothing was impossible.
