Free agent forward Jared Sullinger has drawn Miami Heat’s interest. He has met with Pat Riley, but the Heat has not made any offer yet.
Sullinger was waived by Phoenix Suns on Feb. 24 after he was traded from Toronto Raptors in an exchange with PJ Tucker. He is now searching for a new team, and Miami Heat has approached him, Miami Herald reported.
His agent David Falk said that Sullinger has not been working out with Miami Heat. The team president Pat Riley has visited him but he has not made any offer.
“We’re looking for a future home. A lot of things would have to happen,” Falk said about the Miami Heat’s interest. But he added, “They have no roster spot.”
Falk said that Riley is a fan of Sullinger and during Riley’s tenure as a coach, Falk had a long relationship and had a lot of respect to Riley. He expected Sullinger to be able to join Miami Heat.
Sullinger was traded to Phoenix Suns on Feb. 23 after he healed from his broken left foot that he suffered since October. He only played 11 games with the Raptors in the 2016-17 season after signing one year deal with Raptors in July last year. After the Raptors trade him to Phoenix for wing player Tucker, the Suns immediately was waived him.
Other than Miami Heat, his old team where he spent four years of his first NBA career, Boston Celtics is also interested to bring him back to TD Garden, CBS Sports reported. He was drafted by Boston Celtics as 21st pick in the 2012 NBA Draft.
He played for Celtics in four seasons, averaging 10.7 points and 7.5 rebounds per game in 24.5 minutes. Fans at TD Garden loved him and when he signed with the Raptors, Boston Celtics fans made a tribute video for him as shown below:
