Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner have formally filed for divorce this week. The divorce petitions is the first step for the couple to officially end their marriage of almost 12 years.
Despite the persistent rumors that the Hollywood A-list couple is reconciling after announcing their separation in 2015, it is now confirmed that they are not planning to get back together as husband and wife. TMZ has learned that Garner filed for divorce without a lawyer and Affleck responded to the petition without his attorney as well.
Moreover, the content of Garner's petition and Afleck's response are exactly the same and were filed together. Since the documents were apparently fully coordinated, it only means that the move was mutual.
"It was amicable. In California, one spouse has to serve the other, but they [technically] filed together without lawyers," a source told Page Six. "It was as coordinated as can be."
The couple filed the divorce petition in Los Angeles County Superior Court. Irreconcilable differences was cited as the reason for the separation and both want joint custody of their three children namely Violet (12), Seraphina (8) and Samuel (5).
Afleck and Garner did not have any pre-nup arrangement so their properties could be divided 50/50 or whatever terms they will agree on. There will surely be a clause for spousal support but the ex-couple left the decision to the judge as they left this open. In estimation, the divorce proceedings will be completed in six months thus the divorce is not yet final until then.
The two have been married for ten years when they first announced their separation in June 2015. They met and fell in love in 2003, on the set of their movie "Daredevil."
Both actors played as superheroes and two years after, they got married in a simple ceremony on the Caribbean island of Turks and Caicos. Lastly, actor Victor Garber officiated the private wedding.
