Daisy Ridley Gets Role in Japanese Animated Film ‘Only Yesterday’ English Version

After her big break in the first sequel of the ‘Star Wars sequel trilogy,’ British actress Daisy Ridley has landed a role in the English version of the 1991 Japanese animated drama film ‘Only Yesterday.’

The 24-year-old actress will dub the voice of Taeko Okajima, a 27-year –old career woman, who decided to pay a take a vacation in a rural countryside to pay a visit to a family member. During the trip, she had several flashbacks of her joyful childhood which remind her to be happy at the present. She also met a farmer named Toshio and eventually fell in love with him.

"It was the weirdest, most fantastic moment ever, it was unbelievable! Like magic!" Ridley said in an interview in the Britain's Metro newspaper.

She added that doing a Ghibli film is one of her dreams.

Unknown to many, the ‘Star Wars’ star is a self-confessed fan of Japanese anime films and culture as well.

"My mum took me to watch Howl's Moving Castle and Spirited Away and I was blown away,” Ridley revealed, according to the BBC. "I was watching one of them again recently and I thought, 'I really want to do one of these films.”

According to Ridley, she has auditioned a couple of times when Studio Ghibli, producer of ‘Only Yesterday,’ announced the making of an English version of the film.

Dev Patel, the leading character in the Academy Award-winning film ‘Slumdog Millionaire,’ will join Ridley as he will voice the part of Toshio.

Ridley is best known for portraying the character of Rey in the 2015 American epic space opera film ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens.’

After being included in the box-office hit film, Ridley earned global fame.
