Hong Kong crime thriller Cold War 2 is expected to hit the big screens on July 8.
The sequel of the award-winning Cold War will be simultaneously released in China and 27 other countries including Africa and North America.
The film has cast of renowned actors including Aaron Kwok, Charlie Young, and Tony Leung, who also appeared in the first installation of the movie.
Cold War 2 tackles the internal dilemma and conspiracy among police officials and the elites in Hong Kong. It will relive the conflict between Kwon and Leung's characters but made more complex by their respective influential backers, Yibada reported.
The Lok Man Leung and Sunny Luk directed film is said to have some "political overtones" as it covers the "institutional struggle" of Hong Kong and Beijing happening in the background.
Other than the complicated plot, Leung revealed that fans should also watch out for the upgraded fighting scenes.
"It's a bigger-scaled story with more exciting fights," he told China Daily.
Leung revealed that it took months for the production team to conduct research and polish the script.
Meanwhile, Kwok said his character Sean Lau closely resembles his real personality.
"The upcoming sequel adds more personal, emotional elements, such as Sean Lau's (a police commissioner) family. It makes me feel I was closer to the role," he said as quoted by China Daily.
Cold War 2 has some big shoes to fill as its predecessor was Hong Kong's highest grossing domestic film in 2012.
