Tickets for Descendants of the Sun heartthrob Song Joong-ki's June 25 Taiwan fan meeting have all sold out just within minutes after they became available online.
Many Chinese fans, who failed to see the actor in other Chinese cities, are apparently grabbing a chance to meet him in the Taiwan leg of his Asian tour.
Scalpers took advantage of the widespread interest in Song's fan meeting with tickets being sold as high as around $187, according to Taiwan's Criminal Investigation Bureau.
Worse, some fans fell prey to fraudsters, China Post reported. For instance, a female high school student in Taoyuan and a woman from Taipei, identified as Lee, both wired $187 each to a seller who claimed to have tickets for the event.
Taiwan's Criminal Investigation Bureau revealed that several people fell victim by similar schemes between May 27 and 31. Many of such cases are believed to have gone unreported.
For this reason, the bureau has warned the public to be aware of such ticket fraud. Officials urged netizens to immediately report scalpers and fraudsters by calling the National Police Agency's 165 hotline.
Meanwhile, Viagogo, which is the agency in charge of the ticket sales, said there are still 18 tickets left for Seating Price Level 1 and 28 for Level 2. Tickets start at about $160, according to Yibada.
Song Joong-ki's Taiwan fan meeting will be held at the National Taiwan University Sports Center in Da'an District, Taipei. The venue, which is the most popular concert area in Taiwan, can contain 4,200 people.
