"Gotham" Season 3 is off to one hell of a start. Based on the events in Season 2 finale, there won't be rainbows and sunshine in Gotham after Fish Mooney opened Pandora's Box and released Hugo Strange's monsters. Expectedly, new villains are coming and the old ones are going to get more ruthless.
Among the villains that will debut in "Gotham" Season 3 are Mad Hatter, the Tweedle Brothers, Solomon Grundy and the Court of Owls' Talon. TV Line reported that Fox has officially signed up "The Walking Dead" alum Benedict Samuel for the role of Mad Hatter, also known as Jervis Tetch.
Tetch is described as a "talented hypnotist teetering on the edge of madness." His search for his sister, Alice, leads him to Gotham. There's no telling to what lengths he'll go just to find his sister.
Mad Hatter's introduction in "Gotham" Season 3 connects him to the Tweedle Brothers. In the comics, the criminal twins are known allies of Mad Hatter and the Joker. According to Comic Book Resources, they don't have many superpowers other than super strength, but their abilities are heightened with Tetch's mind-control technology.
Solomon Grundy, however, is a zombie-like villain that possesses super strength. Being technically dead renders Grundy essentially indestructible in "Gotham" Season 3.
The Court of Owls partially debuted in "Gotham" Season 2 in the form of the secret organization that ordered Hugo Strange's evil machinations. The group is comprised of Gotham's elite and wealthy families who've been controlling the city for centuries. They train assassins, known as Talons, from a young age and teach them to be loyal to the cause. The main goal of the Talons is to execute commands from the Court and eliminate anyone who goes against its rule.
As to recurring characters, Oswald Cobblepot is certainly on his way to becoming the Penguin. He learned so much about the tricks of the trade in Season 2 and what it's like to be Gotham's kingpin. After the death of his mother, he has nothing left to lose. He can do whatever he wants to become the big bad he's always dreamt of becoming.
"Gotham" Season 3 will premiere on Sept. 19 on Fox.
