The Bluetooth wearable device designed to go with the "Pokémon GO" augmented video game, called the Pokémon GO Plus, will be released this September, later than the July launch that many gamers were expecting. This caused a lot frustration among fans, and Nintendo finally gave the reason for the delay.
"The delay is due to the preparations for the Pokémon Go application update in order to optimize Pokémon Go Plus," Polygon quoted a Nintendo representative as saying. "In order for us to offer new experiences to play Pokémon Go with Pokémon Go Plus with a quality level high enough to satisfy as many people as possible, we decided that it is necessary to take enough time for the completion. We ask for your understanding."
The statement came after speculations about the delay surfaced, since the companies involved initially did not provide the reason behind the change. It was previously surmised that Nintendo needed more time to produce the accessory to meet the demand. After all, the game has become very popular in many countries, with generally favorable reviews from critics.
The accessory is meant to make the "Pokémon GO" experience more enjoyable for players, since they no longer have to bring out their mobile devices to look and catch for Pokémon creatures. All they needed to do is to pair the wearable with their Android or iOS mobile phones and then wear it on the wrist or put it in their pocket. When a Pokémon or a PokéStop is nearby, the gadget lights up or vibrates. They then only need to push the button to either capture the Pokémon or to receive an item from the PokéStop.
In related news, game developer Niantic reportedly sent cease and desist letters, ordering the stop to all fan-made radar apps that help gamers find Pokémon. According to GameSpot, this equates to players not being able to track the virtual creatures. Niantic, however, has remained silent about this.
The Pokémon GO Plus will be sold for $34.99.
