"Homeland" will stick around for a couple more years. Showtime has officially renewed the spy drama starring Clare Danes for Season 7 and Season 8. Meanwhile, the cable network has released the official plot details of Season 6.
The future of "Homeland" is looking bright. Deadline has learned that the critically-acclaimed Showtime drama has been granted two more seasons ahead of the show's upcoming Season 6. The news was announced at the Television Critics Association (TCA) summer press tour on Thursday by Showtime president and CEO David Nevins.
"Homeland was dervig of a multi-year pickup, and that's what Howard has achieved with his enthusiasm," Showtime's programming president Gary Levine said in a statement.
In other developments, the official plot details of "Homeland" Season 6 have now been released -Entertainment Weekly reported. According to the synopsis, the new season will pick up months later following the terrorist attack in Berlin. Carrie is back in the US and is living in Brooklyn, New York where she works at a foundation which focuses on providing aid to US-based Muslims. The scope of the upcoming episodes will not center on Carrie's new job, but instead it will tackle the after effects of the US presidential election.
As previously announced, "Homeland" will feature a female president in Season 6. The POTUS, who has been named Elizabeth Keane, is described as bright, charming and blunt. The character will be played by "House of Cards" actress Elizabeth Marvel.
Created and produced by Alex Gansa, "Homeland" also stars Mandy Patinkin and Rupert Friend. Season 6 will premiere in January 2017.
