Actress Tiya Sircar, mostly known for her roles in "The Internship," "17 Again" and "Vampire Diaries," has recently been tapped to play a major recurring character in NBC's newest fantasy sitcom, "The Good Place." Sircar will be joining an all-star cast, led by "Veronica Mars" star Kristen Bell and award-winning actor Ted Danson. Other cast members include Jameela Jamil, William Jackson Harper, Manny Jacinto, and D'Arcy Carden.
While details of Sircar's involvement in the series are still kept under wraps, Deadline hints at a major role for the actress.
The series, created by Mike Schur of "Parks and Recreation," "The Office" and "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" fame, centers around the story of Eleanor (Bell), who dies in an accident and gets sent to "The Good Place," a.k.a. heaven. She then meets her mentor, Michael (Danson), who tells her that she has been sent there as a reward for helping innocent people on Earth get off death row. The problem, however, is that Eleanor has absolutely no idea what Michael has been talking about. Is this simply a case of amnesia (the woman just got hit by a tractor-trailer, after all)? Or have the powers that be actually made a huge mistake by sending the wrong person to heaven?
"The Good Place" promises to be a whimsical and quirky comedy, reminiscent of "Pushing Daisies." According to Variety, the series will show viewers a folksy version of heaven, a town filled with stores called "Everything Fits" and "Warm Blankets" and "Infinite Light" and "All the Books." To add to the show's already heavenly sounding setting, Eleanor's home is also said to have been made and decorated to fit her criteria of what ultimate happiness means. What that is, well, viewers would have to tune in to find out.
"The Good Place," a co-production by Universal Television, 3 Arts and Fremulon, will air every Thursday at 8:30 p.m. on NBC. The pilot episode, however, will air in a special preview slot on Monday, September 19, at 10:00 p.m.
