"Supernatural" is set to unearth a secret from Mary Winchester's past in Season 12, executive producer Andrew Dabb has revealed. The showrunner also shared that the new season will tackle the return of the Thule in the first half.
"Supernatural" ended last season with a cliffhanger that sees the return of Sam and Dean's mother, Mary. In Season 12, it seems that one the purposes of her return will be about a secret she has been hiding from her sons. In a report from TV Line, Dabbs has teased this mysterious arc ahead for the Winchester matriarch.
"The story's always been, 'Once Mary married John and settled down, she stopped hunting,'" Dabb told the publication.
"But we're going to find out maybe that's not the whole story."
However, seeking the truth behind Mary's past will not be the only highlighted arc for the character in "Supernatural" Season 12. At present, Mary feels haunted by her death and by its effects that led her sons to become hunters themselves. Series star Jared Padelecki echoed his thoughts about the Winchester's family drama, saying that while his character blames his father for "all the hunting stuff," one can really argue that it is in fact, his mother's fault.
"She was the hunter," the actor said.
"It was the Campbell family, not the Winchester family. It wasn't her fault, but it was her lineage that led us to where we are now."
In other "Supernatural" news, TV Line has also learned that longtime fans will get to see the Thule resurface in Season 12. According to Dabb, they have plotted "something really cool" for the secret Nazi group in the upcoming season. Fans will see their return in episode 5.
"It will be the triumphant or not so triumphant return of the Thule, who have decided to enact their master plan and bring back Hitler," Dabb teased.
"Supernatural" Season 12 premieres on Thursday, Oct. 13 at 9PM on the CW.
