Another Kpop idol is now under fire amidst Korean Independence Day commemoration on Aug.15. This time, BIGBANG's G-Dragon has been receiving backlash from his Japanese fans after the singer-rapper expressed patriotism by posting a photo of him holding the Korean flag.
Some of G-Dragon's Japanese fans are not so pleased after the BIGBANG member posted a patriotic photo on Monday, while Korea is celebrating the day the country achieved independence from Japan, Allkpop reported. While the intention was to express love for the country, some of G-Dragon's fans from Japan took offense of the post and said the idol has low professionalism.
A commenter said, "As someone who's influential in both Korea and Japan, he shouldn't have done this," while another follower said G-Dragon should be considerate of his Japanese fans, considering that the singer-rapper does promotions in Japan.
Although many of his followers lambasted him for the said Instagram post, there were also fans who came to rescue G-Dragon and said, "Congratulations on your independence day. This kind of thing happens on the internet often, so please don't worry about it."
G-Dragon is not the only Kpop idol who was put into hot water in the course of Korean Independence Day celebration. Girls' Generation member Tiffany was also bombarded with hate comments after the singer captioned her Instagram post with an emoticon of the Japanese flag.
According to The Chosunilbo, Tiffany later deleted the caption and issued an apology to all her Korean fans admitting she is ashamed of her action. The Kpop idol also promised to be cautious and keep away from committing the same mistake in the future.
Korean Independence Day is an annual commemoration of Korea's triumph over Japan. The celebration is being observed in both South and North Koreas every Aug. 15.
