The upcoming "Avengers: Infinity War" film and its sequel will be the start of something new in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and they will be distinct, disclosed "Captain America: Civil War" directors Joe and Anthony Russo.

In an interview with IGN, A. Russo said that they intend the two "Infinity War" films to be "the culmination of everything" that went on in the MCU, beginning from "Iron Man," the first film in Phase One released in 2008.

"In being a culmination, these movies are in some ways going to be an end to certain things, and in some ways, they're going to be the beginning of certain things," he said.

The director also told the publication that in choosing which characters to include, they use both story demand and personal preference. He explained that there has to be need for a character to be in the story or they shouldn't be there at all.

The two movies are a year apart, the first to be shown in May 2018 and the sequel, in May 2019. The two were called Parts 1 and 2, but because they will reportedly have a different take, that was changed and will be a sequel instead.

J. Russo also told CinemaBlend that they want the film to be distinctive and very different. He said that while there's "certainly cross-pollination between characters and some story arcs," the first one will be distinctly "Avengers: Infinity War" while the second will be revealed in due time. Not immediately, though.

"Avengers: Infinity War" is relatively still a long way off. Fans can first look forward to watching "Doctor Strange" (November 2016), "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" (May 2017), "Spider-Man: Homecoming" (July 2017); "Thor: Ragnarok" (November 2017); and "Black Panther" (February 2018).

After the first "Infinity War" film will be "Ant-Man and the Wasp" (July 2018) and "Captain Marvel" (March 2019), and then the still untitled "Infinity War" sequel will be shown.
