An unidentified Hungarian construction worker was killed on the set "Blade Runner 2" in a freak accident in Hungary. A representative from Alcon Entertainment confirmed the fatal accident and provided some details.
"A Hungarian construction worker was tragically killed during the dismantling of a movie set on a soundstage at Origo Studios this morning, it was announced by the film production company," the statement reads.
The 28-year old crew member of "Blade Runner 2" died on set in Orion Studios in Budapest. It has been clarified that production on the said set already wrapped. However, the crews in Budapest stayed behind to dismantle the set where the freak accident hapenned, The Huffington Post reported.
Apparently, the worker was underneath a platform where the set was constructed when it [set] suddenly collapsed. However, Origo spokesperson declined to comment on possible causes of the accident, The Hollywood Reporter reported. As of now, no other information is available but the scene is already under investigation as of this writing.
Despite the use of computer-generated images and advanced technology in the production of today's movies, most films still use a physical set to shoot some of its scenes. Essentially, these physical sets are also construction sites.
Other films that also had unfortunate tragedies on set where "The Twilight Zone" and "The Maze Runner: The Death Cure. Meanwhile, the production for "Blade Runner 2" was transferred on another location in the village of Etyek where Korda Studios is located.
"Blade Runner 2" is produced by Ridley Scott and directed by Denis Villeneuve. Harrison Ford will reprise his role as Rick Deckard and is joined by Ryan Gosling, Dave Bautista, Robin Wright and Jared Leto.
