More characters for the upcoming sequel of "Guardians of the Galaxy" has been revealed, such as a part played by reknowned actor Kurt Russell. The actor will play a strange cosmic character known in the Marvel comics universe as "Ego," who will also be known as Star-Lord's (Chris Pratt) father.
On a recent issue of Empire, it was revealed by director James Gunn that the casting of Kurt Russell was actually Pratt's idea. Pratt mentioned that since the first film, Star-Lord (or his real name Peter Quill) have been searching tirelessly for his lost father. Once found, things may or may not turn out the way Quill had hoped for his father. The actor mentioned about seeing the characters "having to endure the realities of being in a family."
Pratt added about the possible complexities in the relationship between Star-Lord and his father, Ego. Star-Lord will still have to "see if that person lives up to the expectations he has in his head."
Based on the research that Screen Rant did on the comics of Marvel associated with the character, Ego is actually a "Living Planet." In the comics, Ego is a cosmic being that originated from the "Black Galaxy." Like other massive entities like Galactus, Ego was also known to devour planets, although smaller than him. He's been a villain to other heroes besides the Guardians, such as Thor, Hulk, and The Fantastic Four.
Actor Kurt Russell would not be in Ego's planetary form, but rather, basing it on the trailers of "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2," he would appear in a human form. The casting choice would probably fitting since the actor was an 80's action icon back then.
"Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" will hit theaters on May 5, 2017.
