"Stranger Things" have been a big success in its first season which ended last month. Audience still wait for the Season 2, but both Netflix and Stranger Things' production company 21 Laps have not yet made official comment regarding the series' renewal.
Duffer brothers, Matt and Ross created the series with Shawn Levy as executive-producer. "Stranger Things" have been a big hit in Netflix, and according to Business Insider, in the first 16 days, 8.2 million people have watched the series. This makes the series as one of the most watched series in Netflix, ahead of other recent series such as "Daredevil," "Jessica Jones," "House of Cards," and "Narcos."
Rotten Tomatoes gives the series a 94 percent critic rating and 96 percent audience rating. Its season finale, which was aired on July 15, gave audience a hope for the new season of the series.
According to TV Guide, the story which end on a cliff-hanger promised audience for the second season. In regard to the ending, Duffer Brothers spoke to reporters at the Television Critics Association fall previews last month. Matt Durfer said they wanted to keep the series going, so they made the season finale to be open ended.
"It's open ended in a way that if people wanted, and Netflix wanted, we could explore and continue this storyline," Matt told reporters. While Netflix chief content officer Ted Sarandos explained at the same event, that Netflix wanted to give audience time to digest Season 1.
"We always want to take some time to be thoughtful about the (renewal) process," Sarandos said.
After a month of the season finale, both Netflix and Stranger Things' production company 21 Laps have not made any official comment regarding the status of Season 2. However, based on the Netflix's track record, the company always renew its original show to the next season. It is a matter of time before the decision to renew the series is made.
