The 24-year-old singer decided to take some time off from her activities to overcome her anxiety and panic attack. She was diagnosed with lupus in 2015, and she thought the anxiety as the side effect of the disease. She also cut short her Revival tour to pay more attention on her health.
In her official statement to People, she admitted that her lupus may have affected her with anxiety and panic attack. Lupus, the chronic, autoimmune disease, can have many side effect.
"As many of you know, around a year ago I revealed that I have lupus, an illness that can affect people in different ways. I've discovered that anxiety, panic attacks and depression can be side effects of lupus, which can present their own challenges," Gomez said.
After a year in battling lupus, Gomez found it hard to perform on stage and to continue her activities normally. So she decided to take some time off and focus on her health.
"I want to be proactive and focus on maintaining my health and happiness and have decided that the best way forward is to take some time off. Thank you to all my fans for your support. You know how special you are to me, but I need to face this head on to ensure I am doing everything possible to be my best. I know I am not alone by sharing this, I hope others will be encouraged to address their own issues," she explained further.
Gomez also announced on her twitter acccunt on Wednesday, Aug.31 to cancel her Revival world tour and she apologized to her fans. Revival tour is scheduled to end in December after visiting North America, Asia, Oceania, Europe and South America.
Two weeks before her announcement to take a break, she was involved in a social media feud with her former boyfriend Justin Bieber, E! reported. She scolded Bieber to refrain from threatening his fans who posted malignant comment in his Instagram. Few days later, Bieber closed down his Instagram account.
After announcing her decision to take time off, Gomez will give more focus on her health.
