Netflix made an official announcement for "Stranger Things" Season 2 after making millions of fans waited anxiously. In the new and darker season, some new characters will appear along with the returning characters.
In an interview with Yahoo! News, executive producer Dan Cohen promised that the second season is a bigger sequel of one of the most popular series in Netflix.
"We want a sequel that feels like it's bigger and badder and darker, while answering more of the questions and getting deeper into what's going on." Cohen said.
He also assured fans the new season offers more suspense, richer storyline and more characters. "We'll be doing more than just a rehash of Season 1. We're coming back with a few new characters, expanding storylines and mythologies, so it'll feel like the stakes are raised and more is going on and really delivering on the promise and pushing for more."
In its first season, "Stranger Things" made a lot of references and homage to the 1980's greatest directors, Steven Spielberg, John Carpenter, Stephen King, and George Lucas, along with their classic films as well. Cohen compared "Stranger Things" Season 2 to the great second films of that era such as "Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom", "Aliens", and "Terminator 2: Judgment Day."
While according to The Verge, writers Matt and Ross Duffer has already prepared the story in Season 2 to be different than the Season 1.
The Duffer Brothers wanted to retain the tone, introduce new monster and deliver a darker storyline. They refer to their favorite sequels that inspired "Stranger Things" that were always a bit different from the first one. They wanted to put that elements into the "Stranger Things" Season 2.
The nine episodes of "Stranger Things" Season 2 will be premiered in 2017. Duffer Brothers wil continue to be the writers, while Dan Cohen will return as executive producers with Shawn Levy.
