"Code Black" actor Rob Lowe will debut heroically as Col. Ethan Willis in the season 2 premiere of the series.

Willis is a doctor in U.S. Military's prestigious Combat Casualty Care research program who has been pulled out from the friend to teach about combat medicine. His brash and no-nonsense attitude is not met by enthusiasm by other doctors except for Dr. Leanne Rorish (Mary Gay Harden), TV Line reported.

There are several details in the clip that gives away a juicy storyline for the character. In the trailer, Lowe is seen making a heroic leap from a chopper to go after a passenger that he lost literally.

The "Parks and Recreation" alum joins William Allen Young, Harry Ford, Luis Guzman, Melanie Chandra, Jillian Murray, Boris Kodjoe and Benjamin Hollingsworth, Deadline reported.

Before "Code Black" was given the go-signal for Season 2, the series underwent a creative overhaul to the departure of major cast members including Raza Jaffrey and Bonnie Somerville.

The shake-up in casting lead to several newcomers who were tapped to join the ensemble. Actors Noah Gray-Cabey, Emily Tyra and Nafessa Williams were reportedly booked for recurring roles.

Gray-Cabey will play the role of an overachieving medical student who finds it hard to keep up with what is going on in the emergency room. Tyra and Williams on the other hand will play the role of a surfer-turned-doctor and an actress-turned-doctor respectively.

"Code Black" is set in the fictional Angels Memorial Hospital, an overcrowded and understaffed emergency room in Los Angeles, California. The series is set to debut for its second season on Sept. 28, 2016.
