"Chicago P.D." actor Brian Geraghty joins "Inception" star Ellen Page and "The Martian" actress Kate Mara in the romance drama "Mercy." Israeli filmmaker Tali Shalom Ezer is directing it.

According to Variety, Geraghty is replacing Pablo Schreiber's key role Weldon in the drama "Mercy." He joins the previously cast Amy Seimetz and Elias Koteas alongside Page and Mara.

Page is playing Lucy in "Mercy." She is the daughter of Simon (Koteas) on death row falling in love with Mercy (Mara). Mercy is a woman on the opposing side of her family's political cause.

In the plot of "Mercy," as a result, Lucy's value for truth is tested as her world begins to unravel. Lucy and Mercy is a queer couple in a relationship that might be torn asunder by family and political interests.

Page said that she is committed right now to taking roles that support women and gay characters, as Vulture reported. She is hopeful, at some point, that one of those gay characters can have a happy ending or at least be in a romantic comedy.

The script for "Mercy" is penned by Joe Barton. Along with Page and Mara, the producers are Christine Vachon and David Hinojosa for Killer Films. The executive producers are Robert Halmi Jr. and Jim Reeve through their Great Point Media and Karri O'Reilly.

Ezer made her feature debut with "Princess." The previous film premiered with strong reviews at the Sundance Film Festival last year.

Geraghty is repped by UTA, Management 360, and Loeb & Loeb. He broke out opposite Jeremy Renner and Anthony Mackie in "The Hurt Locker." He also starred in Denzel Washington's "Flight."

Geraghty just finished a two-year run on "Chicago P.D." He served as an executive producer on "Stanford Prison Experiment."

"Mercy" began shooting this week in Cincinnati. UTA and WME are jointly representing domestic rights.
